Wainwright has been fantastic in afternoon starts and, even with the time change on this game it is still a day game (4 PM Pacific) in San Diego. Wainwright is a combined 9-1 with a 1.66 ERA in his 11 day game starts the past two seasons combined! Opponents hit just .134 against Wainwright in his 3 afternoon starts this year. He'll be opposed by the Padres Zach Davies. Although it was a respectable season for him in 2020, Davies has a match-up issue here in our opinion. The Cardinals are very familiar with Davies because his entire career (111 starts over 5 seasons) had been spent with another NL Central team (the Brewers) prior to this season. From 2017 to 2019 Davies went 1-3 against the Cardinals with a 6.31 ERA and gave up 50 hits in 35 and 1 / 3 innings!
