For a number of different reasons I expect this total to eclipse the posted number as the game comes down the stretch. Indiana is playing its best basketball of the year and is seeking a sixth straight win tonight in the opener of this four-game homestand and a date vs. the lowly Magic is just what the doctor ordered to keep the win skein going as Orlando has lost seven in a row away from friendly confines: "Because we started so slow I don't expect us to separate too much," Pacers' forward Luis Scola said last night. "I expect us to be grinding all the way to the end, but if we play the way we've been playing, we'll be OK." This game is of added importance for the home side as well with contests vs. playoff hopefuls Milwaukee, Toronto and Boston, before then visiting Chicago and Cleveland. Obviously the Magic won't be simply rolling over here though, they haven't lost eight straight on the road since dropping their final ten in 2013-14. Orlando also comes in with momentum after a 103-98 win over Boston on Sunday, rallying from a 20-point deficit while also holding an impressive 52-26 advantage in points in the paint. One player to keep your eyes on today is the Magic's Victor Oladipo, who is averaging 30.7 points over his last three games. Orlando also plays with revenge after a 106-99 setback to Indiana back on January 25th. I think this is a very strong play from a situational stand point, but also note that from a trend based stand point, it becomes even stronger as Orlando has seen the total go OVER the number in eight of 14 this year off an upset win as an underdog, while Indiana has seen it sail above the posted number in six of its last ten vs. teams with losing records. In my opinion, the situation, the numbers and the trends do all indeed point to the OVER as the savvy move in this contest.
