Result: Win
This is a 6* play on the Detroit Tigers.
Good news Detroit fans, Justin Verlander is injured and won't be your opening day pitcher for the first time since 2007. Verlander will obviously be hungry to return to form after last seasons 15-12, 4.54 ERA effort, but that means that David Price is now the ace of the staff with Max Scherzer having left to Washington. Price would throw 7 1/3's shutout innings in a division-clinching performance on the last day of the season vs. the Twins. Minnesota is still developing its talent, while Detroit is expected to once again compete for the division crown. Phil Hughes gets the call for the visitors, he was 4-14 with a 5.19 ERA in New York in 2013 and a more respectable 16-10 with a 3.52 ERA with the Twins last year; Price was even better though, 10-8 with a 3.33 ERA in 2013 while with the Rays, and 15-12, 3.26 with the Tigers a year ago. I'm going to give the nod to Price in this one, this is a tough opening night match-up for Hughes and the young Twins; play on DETROIT.
