(MLB) Cincinnati vs. Chi Cubs,
Point Spread: 1.50 | -119.00 Cincinnati (Away)
Result: Loss
The set-up: The Chicago Cubs likely knew that after winning the team's first World Series in 2017, after a 108-year drought, that repeating would be no walk in the park. However, the Cubs surely didn't expect to be only 20-19 as they got set to play their 40th game of a 162-game schedule. The Cubs have overpowered the Reds in the first two games of this series, outscoring them 16-10 to improve to 4-1 against their National League Central rivals this season. The Reds have now lost five in a row to fall below .500 (19-20) and will try to avoid a sweep this afternoon against the Cubs, who hope to complete their first series sweep of the 2017 season.

The pitching matchup: Amir Garrett (3-2 & 4.25 ERA) will take the mound for Cincinnati and go up against Chicago's Jon Lester (1-2 & 3.45 ERA). Garrett is being called up from the minors to make this start and hopes he can pick up where he left off in his last stint in the majors. He's made six starts for the Reds in 2017, five of the quality variety. This will be his first start against the Cubs. Lester struck out nine to match his season high in his last outing but also allowed four runs (three earned) in 5 2/3 innings in a 5-3 loss last Saturday at St. Louis. Lester has made 10 career starts against the Reds with a 3.72 ERA, while owning a 3-1 record. However, his teams are a remarkable 9-1 in those 10 starts!

The pick: Garrett made six starts for the Reds through May 6 and pitched reasonably well but was sent down to Triple A. He back and as already noted, the Cubs just seem to be "stuck in neutral" to open the 2017 season. As for Lester, he made a run at the Cy Young award with a great second half last season, with the Cubs finishing 24-8 in all of his starts (plus- $1047 against the moneyline). However, this year has been a struggle, as he has failed to get through six innings in five of his eight starts, despite throwing at least 100 pitches in each. The Cubs are 3-5 in Lester's 2017 starst so far, going minus-$365 against the moneyline. Take the 1 1/2 runs with the Reds and make them an 8* play.
