The set-up: The Blue Jays lost nine of 11 to open the season and stood just 8-17 after 25 games. This, from a team which had played of each of the last two ALCS matchups. However, Toronto has begun to dig out of the hole it put itself in lately with Memorial Day's 17-2 thrashing of the Reds serving as a prime example. The Blue Jays pounded out a season-high 23 hits (just two shy of the club record) and almost doubled their previous season best in runs. The victory gives Toronto a 16-10 record in May and the team looks for its seventh win in eight games on Tuesday, when it continues this three-game series versus the visiting Cincinnati Reds. The Reds were 19-15 in games played through May 11 but are now two games under .500, after losing 11 of their last 16 contests.

The pitching matchup: Asher Wojciechowski (1-0 & 2.25 ERA) takes teh mound for the Reds and start for theing first time since landing on the disabled list with left elbow inflammation shortly after an April 1v6 loss to Baltimore is Toronto's Blue Jays J.A. Happ (0-3 & 4.50 ERA). Wojciechowski will be making his first start of 2017 (he made three in 2016), after struggled in Friday's relief outing at Philadelphia, yielding two runs (one earned) while recording just one out. In his season debut on May 20th, he pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings. The former first-round pick of the Blue Jays in 2010 is filling in for the injured Amir Garrett, earning this promotion after going 1-0 with a 1.40 ERA in five starts at Triple-A Louisville. Happ had a "career year" in 2016 (20-4 & 3.18 ERA) and according to pitching coach Pete Walker looked "very good" in a side session on Sunday. However, that was just three days after he was tagged for three runs in as many innings in a rehab outing at Single-A Dunedin. Happ is 3-3 with a 5.44 ERA in eight career starts versus the Reds (teams are 4-4).

The pick: Happ may be a little bit of a question mark but so is Wojciechowski. Considering Toronto's excellent play as of late, the Blue Jays are an 8* play.
