Rogers' Afternoon ASSAULT >> 4-0 Wednesday! 85-43-3 Last 34 Days!
(MLB) LA Angels vs. Detroit,
Money Line: -149.00 Detroit (Home)
Result: Loss
The set-up: Justin Upton's three-run HR led the way for Detroit's 4-0 win last night, after the Angels had won the series' opener 5-2 on Tuesday. Upton, who leads the Tigers with 12 HRs, has homered in three of his last four and carries both a six-game hitting and RBI streak into the rubber match of this three-game series against the Angels on Thursday afternoon. Los Angeles suffered its fifth loss in its last seven road games, falling to 12-20 on the road in 2017. Mike Trout (thumb) is on the disabled list and the Angels, who had just three hits last night, have scored just nine runs in their four losses over a six-game span.

The pitching matchup: JC Ramirez (5-4 & 4.11 ERA) will take the mound for the Angels and Michael Fulmer (6-3 & 3.00 ERA) for the Tigers. Ramirez was coming off three consecutive quality starts (1.74 ERA / team was 3-0) when he surrendered three HRs and a season-high seven runs while lasting only 4 1/3 innings in Friday's 11-5 loss at home versus Minnesota. Ramirez wasn't much better when he lost 7-1 to the Tigers back on May 11 (his only meeting vs. Detroit), giving up two HRs and five runs in seven innings. Fulmer was the 2016 American League Rookie of the Year Award winner and seems to avoiding the "sophomre jinx," as he's gone 5-2 in his last eight starts. Included in that srtetch was that May 11th meeting against the Angels and Ramirez, when he permitted just one run on three hits and struck out seven in seven innings of that 7-1 win. That makes him 2-1 with a 1.83 ERA in three career starts vs. LA.

The pick: The Tigers were 19-7 (plus-$1292, the 6th-best record among starters) in Fulmer's starts as a rookie and as noted, his second year has not seen a big drop-off (team is 7-4 in his 11 starts). Fulmer received an extra day's rest after Detroit elected to recall Buck Farmer from Triple-A Toledo to make his major-league debut on Wednesday and he faces an Angels team without Trout, which enters averaging only 3.48 RPG on the road and that's with Trout playing most of those games. Meanwhile, the Tiger have averaged 5.69 RPG at home. Make Detroit an 8* play.
