(MLB) Seattle vs. Minnesota,
Point Spread: 1.50 | -191.00 Seattle (Away)
Result: Loss
The set-up: The Mariners have scored a total of 27 runs in winning two of the first three games of this four-game series against the Twins. Seattle's offense has been consistently good for awhile now, as the team has scored five or more runs in 11 of its last 12 victories and caps this series Thursday afternoon in Minnesota having won 12 of its last 17. The team's 2-8 start to 2017 seems behind them and a win here gets them to .500 (Seattle sits 33-34). The Twins also have scored 27 runs in the first three games of this series but 20 of them came in Tuesday's victory, when they recorded a franchise-record 28 hits. Minnesota scored just three and four runs in the two losses and now are only 13-20 at Target Field in 2017. However, Minnesota's 20-9 road record leaves them 33-29 on te season, good enough for a two-game lead over the Indians in the AL Central race for first place.

The pitching matchup: Two surprising pitchers square off today, as Ariel Miranda (6-2 & 3.67 ERA) goes for Seattle and Jose Berrios (5-1 & 2.84 ERA) for Minnesota. Miranda has won five consecutive decisions and has allowed just nine ERs over his last six starts. He did not factor in the decision against Toronto this past Saturday, when he gave up two runs on two hits over 6 1/3 innings (Blue Jays won 4-2). Miranda lost his lone career start against the Twins, allowing three runs and three hits in four innings while serving up two HRs last season (6.75 ERA). Berrios comes in off back-to-back wins and has given up fewer than three runs in four of his six starts this year. He struck out eight in 5 1/3 innings while defeating San Francisco in his last outing, allowing only two runs on six hits.Berrios was 3-7 with an 8.02 ERA in 14 starts last year but is 5-1 in his six starts here in 2017 with an excellent 1.00 WHIP to go along with that 2.84 ERA. This marks his first start against Seattle.

The pick: Both pitchers have performed well in 2017 but unlike Berrios, who struggled badly last season, Miranda showed signs of promise by fashioning a 3.54 ERA in 11 appearances (10 starts) in 2016. The Twins' ugly home record of 13-20 (minus-$901 vs. the moneyline) makes them vulnerable again here, as does Berrios' 7.43 ERA in eight career starts at Target Field. Take the 1 1/2 runs and make Seattle a 6* play.
