Rogers' 10* Tennessee/GA Tech CASH EXPLOSION >> 5-2 in NCAAF This Week!
(NCAAF) Tennessee vs. Georgia Tech,
Point Spread: -2.50 | -112.00 Tennessee (Away)
Result: Loss
The set-up: The brand-new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will host this year's CFP championship game but just two nights ago, was the venue for Alabama's historic meeting with FSU. The No. 1 Crimson Tide took on third-ranked FSU Saturday night, in the first-ever season-opener between a a top-ranked AP team against a top-3 opponent. Few don't know that Alabama took it to FSU 24-7 plus FSU lost starting QB Deondre Francois after suffering a patellar tendon injury in his left knee (will need surgery). Monday's night's final game of CFB first opening weekend features No. 25 Tennessee vs. Ga. Tech. The Volunteers ended last season 9-4 (as they did in 2015), giving them nine wins and top-25 finishes in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2006 & 2007. Georgia Tech closed last season with four wins in a row to finish 9-4, quite a turnaround from 2015's 3-9 'nightmare.' Both schools were original members of the SEC but have not played since 1987. Series record sees Tennessee leading, 24-17-1.

Tennessee: Starting QB Joshua Dobbs (2,946 passing yards / 27-12 ratio) was also the Vols' leading rusher (831 yards / 12 TDs) and will be tough to replace. Junior Quinten Dormady, a backup the last two years (just 17 attempts in 2016) and red-shirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano are battling to replace Dobbs. "We have a pretty good idea who the QB will be for us, and we have a pretty good idea who the QB will be for them as well," Jones told reporters this week. The defense returns seven starters, including all linebackers plus an experienced secondary.

Ga. Tech: Head coach Paul Johnson has not announced who will start under center but it's most likely the Yellow Jackets will go with junior Matthew Jordan, who played at times while former starter Justin Thomas was injured last season. However, junior TaQuon Marshall or a pair of red-shirt freshmen are still in the mix. "We may play all four in the first game," Johnson told reporters. "Who knows?" RB John Kelly (630 yards / 5 TDs) and WR and Jauan Jennings (40 catches / 580 yards / 7 TDs) will be the team's offensive 'building blocks.' Eight starters return on defense plus the special teams are in good hands featuring Evan Berry (32.9 yards on kickoff returns) and punter Trevor Daniel, who averaged 44.6 yards and is on the watch list for the Ray Guy Award.

The pick: Not all nine-win season are equal. Ga. Tech's nine wins (ending on a four-game winning streak), made amends for a rare poor season under Paul Johnson (3-9 in 2015). Meanwhile, Tennessee's 9-4 year was a disappointment. Tennessee got out of the gate 5-0 but the Vols endured a three-game losing streak plus lost to Vanderbilt for the third time in five years. The 9-4 season may look good "on paper," but it was far from satisfying for fans or head coach Butch Jones.Paul Johnson's offense typically creates problems for opponents but with a trip to "the Swamp" just two weeks away (9/16 vs. Florida), the Vols need a win here to get their season off on the right foot. Make the Vols a 10* play.
