The set-up: Gonzaga is 21-4 on the season and ranked 12th in the latest AP poll. However, the 11-1 Bulldogs find themselves one game back of St. Mary's (23-2 / 12-0) in the WCC. Gonzaga looks for a sixth straight win when it visits Pacific in WCC action on Thursday and the Bulldogs can hardly afford to overlook the 12-13 Tigers (7-5 in WCC) with a rematch against Saint Mary's looming on Saturday (Gaels beat the Bulldogs back on Jan. 18). Pacific has lost to Gonzaga 11 straight times but the Tigers have already won more games in 2017-18 than last season, when they went just 11-22. In fact, Pacific has a chance at its first winning season since the 2013-14 campaign.
Gonzaga: Sophomore forward Rui Hachimura has scored in double digits in 11 of the past 13 games but he is only the fifth-leading scorer on the squad at 11.1 per game. Senior 6-9 power forward Johnathan Williams leads the Bulldogs in scoring (13.6) and rebounding (7.4), while junior guard Josh Perkins (13.2), 6-10 sophomore forward Killian Tillie (12.2) and freshman guard Zach Norvell Jr. (11.8) make up the top four scorers. Gonzaga goes seven-deep with senior guard Silas Melson (10.3) also averaging in double digits and freshman guard Kispert averaging 7.8 & .3.6. Gonzaga is scoring 86.6 PPG (5th) on 50.5% shooting (10th).
Pacific: Gonzaga delivered a resounding 81-48 home win over Pacific back on Dec. 28 and the Tigers had scored fewer than 70 points in four straight games before Saturday's solid 81-72 victory over Pepperdine. Junior guard Miles Reynolds is averaging 22.5 points on 17-of-28 shooting over the last two games - both victories - and has moved into a tie for the team scoring leadership with junior guard Roberto Gallinat at 13.0 PPG. 6-5 Sophomore small forward Jahlil Tripp averages 10.3 points and leads the team in both rebounding (7.8) and assists (4.1), while 7-0 senior center Namdi Okonkwo, who blocked six shots against Pepperdine (and has 21 over the last four games), averages 5.1 & 4.3. His season total of 68 blocks ranks third in school history behind George Fowler (74 in 1977-78) and Michael Olowokandi (95 in 1997-98).
