The 7-3 Red Sox won the opener on the road vs the White Sox on Friday. Second time around it will be lefty James Paxton vs the Chicago's hard luck veteran Lance Lynn. Lynn has struggled this year in most starts. He struck out 16 last time out and still lost. K's aside, it is earned runs that have been the issue; 12 in 17 innings in June alone.
We have barely seen Paxton in recent years, but it appears that he is both healthy and in good form since returning from the IL. He is 2-0 with an ERA of 2.33 in June, while holding opposing batters to just .182. He is no slouch for strikeouts either, with 24 as opposed to 4 walks this month.
The Red Sox are better on offense, and have acceptable relief pitching at the moment. The White Sox do not fare well vs over .500 teams, and for what ever reason are truly awful in home games this year. I'll take Paxton over Lynn at the moment; in most other categories Boston has the edge. I am seeing "red" again on Saturday. Boston to win Game two.
