The (ouch, 2-8) Padres were swept by the Pirates and now face the Reds who are still winning at a surprising rate, taking two of three from the Orioles. The Reds give up a lot of runs but a potent offense, third at present in OPS, has been able to compensate. The Padres' offense just hasn't produced as it should, but they should get their swings today with Ashcraft on the mound. The Reds' right-hander was roughed up for six runs over four innings last time out. That is now five of six very poor starts with an ERA way up in the stratosphere for June. The Padres' starter Lugo has been effective since returning from the IL. He won't give you length, but he has been dependable, with a 3.60 ERA in June. Neither bullpen has been effective lately. Lugo might keep the score down for the Padres early in the game, but after the fifth inning, the sky could be the limit from both sides. We've seen a steady diet of Overs from both teams.
