The St. Louis Blues will be looking to record a fourth consecutive win as they will host the Colorado Avalanche at Scottrade Center tonight. That might be easier said than done as the visitors are coming off an impressive performance against the Islanders, and I think the Avs are undervalued in this spot.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Semyon Varlamov - The 26 year old Russian is coming off a shutout as he stopped 40 shots in Thursday's 5-0 victory over the New York Islanders. He has conceded nine goals behind a .947 save percentage in his last five starts, and Patrick Roy recently claimed Varlamov to be "... one of the best, if not the best, in the game right now". Patrick Roy, if anyone, should know ...
2. Injuries - David Backes and T.J. Oshie missed Thursday's game versus the Ducks due to concussions and are likely to be out for this contest as well. No loss is as big as the one of Paul Stastny though, who came over from the Avs during the summer and recorded one goal and three assists over his first four games.
3. X-factor - Colorado has the second most effective penalty kill in the NHL so far, conceding only four goals while successfully riding out 40 penalties.
Selection: This is a play on the Colorado Avalanche (10*)
