Now, you might take a quick look at Patrick Corbin’s last four starts and be like “oh, look, he turned the corner.” After all, he’s 1-1 with a 2.82 ERA, five walks and 24 strikeouts over 22.1 innings in those outings. Of course, if you look closer, his WHIP in that stretch is 1.478 and he’s actually allowed 14 runs, though only half of them were earned. Sure, his last couple turns have been decent but facing the Orioles (23rd in runs per game), Pirates (28th) and Marlins (17th) is a far cry from facing the Braves. Atlanta entered Friday 5th in the majors with 4.71 runs per game and they were 6th in runs per game at home with 4.82 runs per contest. Kyle Wright has gone 5-1 in his last seven starts and his no-decision would have been a win if not for a two-plus hour rain delay in Monday’s outing against the Cardinals. He’s gone 6-2 with a 3.00 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP, 18 walks and 63 strikeouts over 60 innings in 10 starts at Truist Park. Seeing how Corbin has posted a 1-5 record with a 7.39 ERA, a 1.90 WHIP, 10 walks and 30 strikeouts over 35.1 innings with two quality starts in seven road outings, there’s no reason to trust the Nationals here. Wright gets his 10th win of the season as the Braves roll here.
