The first College Football Playoff game of New Year's Day sees the Arizona State Sun Devils take on the Texas Longhorns. ASU won the Big 12 and comes in refreshed off the long break, but I think they'll have their hands full here.

For one thing, the Big 12...wasn't exactly a beauty contest this year. Yes, ASU won the league, but their schedule includes very few true quality wins and a pretty terrible loss to Cincinnati. I'm not impressed by the resume here, and this will be the stiffest challenge they've faced all year.

Texas, meanwhile, comes in off of an easy win over Clemson in their first CFP game. They're a physical team that grinds away at opponents and wears them down, and I think that makes them a good matchup for a team likely to be playing from behind early. 11.5 isn't a small spread, but take the Longhorns.
