The Huskies have been awful on both ends of the court and face one of the hottest teams in the nation today in Miami Ohio. The RedHawks have risen 86 spots in Haslametrics.com’s rankings in the last 30 days, and 45 spots in the last week. Their offense has been superb, scoring 94 points, 141 points, 93 points, 80 points and 91 points in their last five games (99.8 PPG), and they're facing a Huskies squad that's 316th in defensive efficiency, 345th in eFG% defense and 357th in 3P% defense. Ohio dropped 108 points on Northern Illinois on Saturday, scoring 1.363 points per possession.
In what will be a high-tempo affair (NIU ranks 59th in adjusted tempo and Miami ranks 120th in adjusted tempo), the RedHawks will score plenty of points, easily covering the spread against a Huskies team that struggles offensively, ranking 347th in offensive efficiency, 358th in eFG%, 358th in 2P% and 319th in 3P%.
NIU has recently failed to cover the spread as 20-point underdogs, 13-point underdogs, 14-point underdogs and 18.5-point underdogs. In their matchups vs. D-1 competition, the Huskies have lost by 15, 16, 27, 46, 5, 13, 44, 21, 4, 18, and 38 points. Aside from the four-point loss to a bad Eastern Michigan team (319th-ranked team in the nation, per KenPom), they have been blown out consistently. There is excellent value in a wager on the RedHawks to cover this spread, which is why I'm picking Miami -10.5 as my preferred NCAAB pick of the night!
